High Ropes Time

By Aaron

I took a long deep breath as I began climbing up the ladder. My body was tingling all over like a thousand needles stabbing into me. Slowly and carefully, making my way up, the ladder began wobbling wildly, as I trembled. I slapped myself and forced myself to take one step at a time.

When I made it to the top the instructor reached over for the safety line and attached it to the wire above. I took my first step and within seconds my legs were shaking again like when a dog shakes water off its fur. Every second I began to get more afraid, everybody on the ground seemed so distant but I couldn’t give up. Other people had made it so why couldn’t I? What made them better than me? I had bungy jumped off a bridge so this should be a piece of cake. As I walked along the wire I felt a chill running down my spine hoping that it would end. Already the wire felt like it was going to snap but then I imagined I was Indiana Jones and I started to have fun.

I was really excited to reach the end but then I came to the the flying fox. The fear came running back to me, rushing back as fast as the speed of light trapped like a cornered mouse. There was only one thing to do JUMP!! The fear vanished as quickly as it came as I soared down through the trees and landed with a thud on the ground.

After that I said "That was awesome I wanna go again.”

I love all of your similes! I could really imagine being there in your shoes and being freaked out. This story reminded me of when I went rock climbing at school and my legs also shook like a dog trying to get water off its fur!
