High in the Ropes

by Jordan

My legs were shaking like jelly. I was about to climb the ladder of the high ropes course. I stepped up to the ladder, my heart was almost leaping out of my chest. Fearfully I walked up to the ladder and looked and looked. Up to the top I climbed, my body was so full of fear it was hard to hang on. When I reached the top of the ladder I could barely stand. Tiny Tim, one of the instructors, clipped me onto the first rope and then it was time to climb.

I started slowly scuttling along the rope holding onto the two ropes on either side of me. All of a sudden I wasn’t feeling so bad. I started walking a bit faster now. At that moment I started feeling more confident. I had made it. I was at the first tree. Carefully I unclipped one of my cows tails, which are strong clips that can pull a truck, then I clipped my cows tail onto the next rope and then I did the same with the other.

Now there was only one rope. I slowly sidestepped along the thin rope. I wobbled slightly but I was able to steady myself. Then I finally got to the next tree, do the same as I did before, unclip myself then clip myself back up.

The ropes were dangling down from the rope above me and it was a lot harder to walk. While struggling to reach the next rope I swung around wildly. Finally I stumbled onto the platform of the flying fox.

I stepped onto the platform and the instructor unclipped me from the rope. So I grabbed onto the flying fox then I jumped.

There are no words that could describe it, it felt like all the skin was being blown off my body. It was phenomenal.
