Climbing High in Time

By Olivia

I struggled up the rocks as I tried to take a photo. My hands were shaking and I couldn’t press the button. I took off my glove, the cold air wrapped around my hand almost making it numb instantly. Click. I took it, the view, the hills and the town.

My hands were numb and my legs had turned into ice blocks. I was in wet shoes, wet socks, shorts, a t-shirt and my warm stuff. My lips went blue as the wind screamed past my face. I gulped in some air. It was so cold I felt like an popsicle that has been over frozen.

I put my hand down on a big wet rock as I tried to get up. I can see the top! All you can see is a white sheet of mist surrounding us. We made it I’m siting on the trig station. I clutched the pole as if I was going to fall. Our instructor took lots of photos as we posed in silly ways.

Suddenly the mist started to clear. We could see everything from the hills to the towns to the farms. The sun shone like a golden flower even though it was still like the South Pole as the wind raced past us. Our drained faces became colourful. But when I took my glove off to take a photo. BIG MISTAKE.

My hands froze as I started to shiver. I rushed to put on my glove but I was holding the camera. I slipped on a rock and tried to stay stable. My dad caught me just in time! Thanks Dad.

Don’t you just love it when you do stuff when at first you didn’t want to do it.
TRAMPING IS AWSOME!
I can’t wait to do it again.
