A FLY THROUGH TIME...

By Rachel K

I stared as Philippa dived off the cliff into a sea of air. My heart thudded. It was my turn to get the harness on. A shiver swam down my spine, as the harness was pulled tightly across my chest and legs. It felt funny to walk. I watched as Olivia got clipped onto the pulley. A swarm of fear buzzed in my head and stung like little bees. This is it. I took a deep breath.

“Next!” called Donna.
I took a shaky step forward. I felt like I would turn into a puddle of jelly there and then, I was so nervous. I heard the gentle ‘click’ of the pulley being attached to my harness. My big moment.
“No turning back now.” I mumbled with my teeth clenched tightly together.

The last clip went on. Time to go! The pulley was beginning to turn to life, and was tugging at the rope. I decided to jog up to the edge, I’d much rather prefer that then to be yanked off like a rag doll. I dived of the cliff with a shriek of fear and joy! I sprung up and down and toppled forward. I spun around like I was doing some sort of funny dance. It felt like I was on a Bungy cord.

As I swam through the air the cool breeze licked my face and the sun shook me warmly by the hand, like it was congratulating me. I could hear the silent cheers of my surroundings. I flew to the end when suddenly felt myself drifting back. All my fear leapt back up my throat. I felt like I was falling.
“Help!” I croaked but my voice seemed to trail away in the wind.

A streak of relief came upon me as I felt someone tugging at the rope.
I slowly rolled back down the wire. I stumbled and skidded onto the firm, damp ground. I heard my friends cheering. I laughed at the pulley. I wasn’t going to let him win!

Now I really do feel like ‘Super-Girl’ or ‘Wonder Woman’ because it takes allot of courage to go on a flying fox like that!

I swiveled around to see the pulley try to yank Astrid off the cliff. Her big moment. I smiled. I knew she could do it.
