I clutched the ladder one foot in front of the other. I started making my way up the ladder. Each step I took I was getting higher and higher. My legs trembled. I was terrified.
Although the sun was shining, I felt a a sudden chill of fear. My hands were icy cold and so were my toes. I never thought I was afraid of heights until now. The higher I climbed the more fearful I became. I didn’t want to show I was scared as four people had gone before me.
I took a deep breath and climbed to the top of the ladder, without looking down I sighed with relief. I couldn’t believe I made it, as I thought I would fall to the ground and smash into a million pieces like a pane of glass.
I carefully clasped my harness to the rope. I quickly looked down to see how far I had climbed. It was a lot higher then thought. I felt so proud of myself. I thought I can do this. Strangely my fear had disappeared.
Even though I was scared at the beginning. I have now overcome my fear. I think it was a phenomenal achievement.
