On March the 3rd Room 3 left for our one week camp at the Wairarapa Outdoor Pursuits in the sunny Wairarapa.
We were fortunate enough that the whole class was able to go and we thank parents and caregivers for their generousity in allowing all of the students to go.
We had a great week but no one had told the weather that it was part of the plan too!
We arrived in the rain on Monday to be welcomed onto the Te Ore Te Ore marae. This was a new experience for many of the students and they enjoyed the opportunity to be a part of this cultural experience. Cameron replied on behalf of Maungaraki School and presented the kamatua (the Maori elder who is in charge of the marae) with a totara tree. This was very apt as our syndicate is the totara syndicate.

After a change of timetable to flying fox and caving, in light of the weather, off we went. Many shrieks of delight or sheer relief that the harness did its job at the flying fox, and many oohs and aahs at the glow worms in the cave.
Next challenge was to sort the mattresses in the meeting house ready for our first night on camp. Always an interesting night as everyone is usually so excited. However everyone was in bed and quiet by 11pm. A good night's sleep was had by all.
Our first day at camp was a unanimous success.
